Let's introduce you this city in a few photos.

Sure, it's a vital city on the seaside. Valparaiso is located a hundred kilometers from the Chilean capital city: Santiago.

Its port is one of the biggest in South America. Valparaiso belongs to the ocean. Its neighborhoods have been built by sailors, generations after generations.

It's the mandatory stop for all trade ship in South America. The commercial port works full time.

On the seashore lay supertankers, cruiser ships, military vessels and a full fleet of fishing boats holding the Chilean colors: blue, white, red.

Also the climate is oceanic. We got surprised by the cool temperatures associated with some showers even during summer!

But the sight that tourists come to see is located on the hills around the city.

Pale colored houses take there the whole available space.

The city becomes a work of art, a giant mosaic.

Speaking about it, Valparaiso is steeped in art.

Valparaiso is liked the Montmartre in Paris. It contains a full neighborhood dedicated to art.

Streets are scenic, colorful, living. Street musicians, bands are playing in the main crossings. It makes us forgot for a while the bad weather of the day.

Graffitis, from the hooligan signature to the sophisticated wall painting, are commonly used as an expression way.

They can be found everywhere, on walls, pathways, grounds, stairs...

In Valparaiso, we can distinguish on the hills, the upper town with its colored terraced houses, and the lower town, mainly composed of old buildings in concrete.

Funiculars are built everywhere for people to reach easily the higher parts of the city.

They are many in the city and they are commonly used by both tourists and inhabitants.

And locals' life flows peacefully...

Back to the port, we can reach Sotomayor square.

There is located the command of Chilean naval forces.

Despite our tiredness and the sad weather that lowered our impressions of the city, we liked Valparaiso for its originality and its living temper. We recommend you to visit it and wish you a clement weather!
