11. Ilha Grande

- We started crossing the Brazil by road and discover how much green is the country with trees all around every roads. We arrived in the city of Angra Dos Reis which is the seaport to Ilha Grande.

- At the arrival on the island, we were totally amazed:
- First a lot of people were at the port helping carrying food bought in Angra dos Reis. That much solidarity is comprehensible. Shopping is only possible from the continent and food is very expensive.
- Secondly the port city called Abraão and its main streets are fully dedicated to tourism.
- Benoît was expected a paradise not crowded: he was totally wrong.

- After one night of wild camping under the rain, we got up and discover the beautiful beach of Dois Rios, all empty, just for us!

- The waves were huge and we swim in the bay. It was a very good time.
Crossing to one island.

- By typing Dois Rios on Google Maps, you will find two islands in the bay. I have set myself the goal of swimming to the first one. But in the middle of the crossing, three fishing boats cut me off. When I called, the fishermen handed me a rope and I was able to get into the boat.
- Despite the lack of photos, I ask you to believe me, on the boat were hordes of fish: shrimps, octopus, squid, langoustines, rays and more. Wow, all these fish were put in the hold in the cooler before being sold (220€ per case of langoustines).
- The sailors even offered me a slice of their sandwich.
- I set off again and climbed a very hostile island: treacherous currents threw me over the sea urchins, then walking on the sharp rocks, cacti and other thorny trees present on the slightest slope of the island, finished scratching my poor feet.
- Benoît joins me there and together we decide to meet the sailors again! The fishermen were busy stitching up their nets. So they offered us a piece of beef and showed us around their living room. I'll let you guess what a boat with twelve men sailing for days together can entail...
- The fishermen actually waited six hours for the fish to get caught in their nets by the tide.

- With sunburns, hurting feet and hands (because of the island ascension) and a tiring swim, we went back to Abraão (8kms again) and left for Paraty. Before Benoit took a natural bath in the soldier piscine.
