20. Remains of precolombian civilisation in North Argentina

- In the mountainous valley of Tilcara (2200m) was living an indigenous population from South America, called Qulla, or Kolla in Spanish. This civilization resisted the Incas, then the Spanish during more than 100 years.
Where can we find them?

- They are living at the border between Bolivia in the North of Argentina (in blue on the map). They used to live in the Andes under a dry climate. However they are progressively getting integrated into the population, participating in the government in Buenos Aires...
Way of live

- The way of live is transmitted from generation to generation. Pachamama day is one of the most famous. Pachamama is the goddess of the Earth, that we can find in most of Andean cultures, symbol of fertility.
- FYI: Like a lot of pre-Columbian civilization, it's hard to retrieve their legacy because they weren’t mastering the writing.
Omaguaca city

- This site is located on the hill of Pucara, filled by lots of cactus. Looted years after years, but well reconstituted, Tilcara is the major touristic center, associated with the Quebrada de Humahuaca, 40kms away.
A traditional house

- A part of the village has been reconstituted by two archaeologists in the 20th century. Inside of this wall of stones, temperatures are quite cool even under a warming sun.
- The houses are made of stone walls with a cob roof, supported by trunk in cactus wood.
Lamas breeding

- These long wall parks were used as lamafolds (sheepfold for lamas). Lama was primordial for its whool, its meals, its grass and its milk.
